about avdira:    At the Archaeological Museum of Abdera, objects unearthed from the ancient city and cemeteries of Abdera are exhibited. The exhibition covers the period from the 7th century BC to the 13th century AD. The displays are organized into three main sections: public life, private life, and burial customs, which are further subdivided into thematic groups. The exhibits are accompanied by explanatory texts, photographs, drawings, maps, and diagrams. The museum has a strong educational character. Its primary goal is to contribute to the education of primary and secondary school students, while also satisfying the demanding visitor.

The building consists of the basement (housing the laboratories, storage areas for antiquities and materials, and the electrical and mechanical installations), the ground floor (which includes the conservation laboratories, visitor service areas, a multi-purpose hall, and exhibition space), and the upper floor (comprising offices and exhibition space).

The public is served for administrative matters at the offices between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The museum falls under the 31st Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities of Xanthi. The Ephorate's intention is to transform it into a venue for multiple cultural activities, so that it may contribute more dynamically to the intellectual development of the region. Scientific guided tours and educational programs have been organized. On October 20–21, 2001, a symposium entitled "Klazomenai, Teos, and Abdera: Metropolis and Colony" was held in the multi-purpose hall. In June 2002, a meeting of Greek and Spanish delegates was hosted as part of a broader collaboration between the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and the corresponding Region of Adra and the University of Granada.

Among the immediately realizable goals are the organization of photographic exhibitions, periodic exhibitions of archaeological or artistic content, and the installation of an audiovisual system.
